Duncan's Big Kumara

Harvest time should well and truly be here, but today it was the turn of the kumara and the figs. One lot of grapes may come off on Wednesday. Unfortunately many of the kumara have worms so we can't really give them away. We have four cartons of them. The figs were badly affected by the rain, but I am cooking up the best of them in anise, ginger and cardamom. They need to simmer for three hours so the house is very fragrant.
I've wasted many hours this weekend looking at wedding venues on the internet. Couldn't find anyone to play golf with this week. One lady's husband has had a stroke, and other's daughter has a malignant melanoma. Life sure throws a few curve balls.

  1. Well done on posting the photo! Did you try it the way I told you?
You will have to make huge pots of kumara soup and freeze it for Winter - yum!
Well, your grand-daughter has a sprained wrist and your grand-son decided to go outside and run around with his new shinpads on and no shoes, in the rain, where the girls had just decided to smash marbles with a hammer. He was carried in with blood all over his foot - quite a deep cut. The girls now realise that smashing marbles is a ridiculously stupid thing to do and spent a while sweeping up all the bits off the wet concrete. Both kids are fine now though, although a little tired and grumpy - that goes for their Dad too.
